Following a tremendously successful inaugural year, Advertising Week’s Next Generation Day is back, bigger and better than before!
Student teams will start the day with an exclusive screening of Art & Copy at the ROM, including breakfast, before being whisked away to experience ‘A Day in the Life’ at one of 20 agencies for the unique opportunity to work with some of the best and brightest in the business.
Upon arrival, students will be given a guided tour of the office and Q&A session with key personnel over lunch. Then, working with an interdisciplinary team of strategic and creative pros, together with some of their clients, students will come up with a BIG IDEA for Your Life Counts (YLC) that will be judged by industry experts. The winning team will be announced at the Next Generation party that night and has the chance to win some incredible prizes including the possibility of having their work produced.
Be sure to sign up fast and don’t miss out on this once in a (student) lifetime opportunity to get a taste of the real world of advertising!

YLC stands for Your Life Counts
YLC is a charitable organization devoted to preventing suicide among at-risk youth. YLC does a remarkable job of intervention and has saved a lot of lives. But much, much more needs to be done.
Suicide is a growing problem in Canada, where it’s the second leading cause of death among youth aged 15 - 24. Most appallingly, the rate of suicide among native youth is five to six times higher than the Canadian average. For every completed suicide there are one hundred attempts. It’s a human disaster.
Many youth, faced with what they see as a dauntingly competitive society in which they have no chance of success, lose hope. Others have never been told that they are loved or special in any way. They believe that nobody cares and no one will listen to them. They believe they are expendable.
We are here to tell them that every single life counts and to help them whoever they are and in whatever situation they find themselves in.
In order to do this, we go to where they are – online. The Internet is a medium in which troubled youth feel comfortable and can, if they wish, remain anonymous while seeking help.
YLC has partnered with organizations across the country to provide help when and where needed. We also have active school and community programs that underpin our efforts.
The YLC website is a portal, a first stop on the road to steadying and recovery.

Thank you 27 Marbles Training for securing this wonderful opportunity on behalf of the industry.ART & COPY reveals the stories behind and the personal odysseys of some of the most influential advertising visionaries of our time and their campaigns, including Lee Clow (Apple Computer 1984, and today’s iPod); Dan Wieden (“Just Do It”); Phyllis K. Robinson (who invented the “me generation” with Clairol); Hal Riney (who helped President Reagan get re-elected); and George Lois (who saved MTV and launched Tommy Hilfiger overnight).
Directed by Doug Pray (HYPE! SCRATCH), ART & COPY captures the creative energy and passion behind the iconic campaigns that have had a profound impact on American culture. Featuring rare interviews with the aforementioned industry legends, the film seeks to identify the elements that transform an slogan into a pop culture catch phrases.
ART & COPY provides a window into the creative process and the individuals who have changed our lives in ways we may not realize,” said Mary Warlick, CEO of The One Club. “The movie looks at advertising not as products flying off the shelf but as the work of a few American heroes who feel passionately about their craft, ideas, and the ability of ideas to change how people feel.”

Today, more than ever, audiences have a lot of control over where and how they consume media, and, by necessity, that shift has significantly influenced the process of creation and acceptance of media. Technology has fueled the porous relationship between audiences and content creators, and technology is leading us into the next phase with reach across multiple screens and the cloud.
To demonstrate the application of advertising campaigns across multiple touch points, Jason will showcase a live demo of a recent Harry Potter campaign, which illustrates how a multi-screen story can connect with audiences in new ways across Xbox Live, PC, mobile platforms, and Surface to provide a truly unified experience.
